Major League Baseball Player. He was a pitcher for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Senators, and the Philadelphia Phillies during a eleven year career (1955-1966). Born Edward Jack Roebuck, he made his major league debut in 1955 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and pitched for them for seven and half seasons before being traded to the Washington Senators during the 1963 season. While with the Dodgers, he pitched in both the 1955 and 1956 World Series. He spent the 1959 season mostly in the minors while his pitching shoulder was healing from an injury. In 1962, he was instrumental as a relief pitcher in helping the Dodgers gain a first-place tie with their archrival San Francisco Giants and forcing a three-game playoff which the Giants eventually won. He played for the Senators for the rest of the 1963 season and part of the 1964 season before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies during the 1964 season. He played for the Phillies for two and half years before retiring after the 1966 season. Injuries plagued his last several years in baseball. His career statistics included 52 wins and 31 losses with a 3.35 ERA, 477 strikeouts, and 62 saves. After retiring, he stayed in the sport as a scout for the next four decades.
