She moved to Pleasant Grove in 1942 and graduated from High School in 1949. She began dating Grant when he walked her home after their shift in the Strawberry Days hamburger stand. Their courtship and early years of marriage included a lot of time apart and correspondence by mail as Grant was away for missionary, then military service. Grant and Jeniel served a full-time mission in Africa, working in Congo, Ivory Coast, and South Africa. They also served in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples.
Jeniel's patient, loving way of service and teaching is cherished by her posterity. She was an excellent artist, designer and seamstress. Her family worked hard together gardening, canning, farming and serving others. They also played hard together hiking, camping, white water rafting, swimming and snow skiing. She served in many Church callings, but often said her favorite was Guide Patrol Leader (11-year-old scouts). Jeniel never wanted to be in the spotlight – she tried to avoid it – but her faith and quiet example were evident to all who knew her.
She is survived by her twelve children: Richard, Lee (Joy), Ruth, Jeanne Holdaway, Susan (Michael) Butler, Peggy (David) Andersson, Ray (Hayley), Brig (Debbi), Karen (Jeff) Harbold, Kent (Kelly), Lila (Leo) Biggs, Donna (Ryan) Thorne; 44 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and her sisters Hilga Judd Frier, Ilene Judd Johnson, and Charlotte Judd Tracy. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Ira M. Judd and Helen Judd Nielsen, and daughter-in-law Sandra Harmer Fugal.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Grove Creek 2nd Ward building, 475 N 700 E, Pleasant Grove. Viewings will be held at the same location on Thursday, June 21, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
