Yesterday morning started well just like every other one, but in a split second, everything changed. Yesterday, Ron and I had to say goodbye to our furbaby Lucy. It was sudden an unexpected, and we’re simply heartbroken. Exactly 4 years and 2 weeks ago, we brought Lucy home from Animal Care & Protective Services to foster her. She quickly (pretty much on the drive home) squirmed her way into our hearts, and we couldn’t let her go. She had health issues that were all manageable, but then she was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago, but that didn’t stop her. Her strong-willed little body fought through and responded well to treatment, and she won that battle. A bad heart ended up winning the battle yesterday. Lucy was so special and left a deep imprint on our hearts and added immeasurable joy to our life. She was strong-willed, quirky, and had a shrieking bark that jolted us every time. She was independent, yet so loving, and was the leader of our pack. She loved treats, and she loved the sun – she took us for walks. We miss everything about her, and desperately wish this journey wasn’t over.
So many people helped with Lucy’s care over the years, including an amazingly wonderful medical team who took care of her (and us). We can’t begin to thank them enough for their compassion, support, and medical expertise. Shoreline Vet, SEVO-Med, Veterinary Acupuncture & Wellness Vet, Dr. Sander, Dr. Neumann, Dr. Deitz, Dr. Locke, Dr. Jenna, Betsy, Kat, Alexa, Emily, Sara, Friends of Jacksonville Animals, and so many others.
Life is so fragile and can end in the blink of an eye. Hold your loved ones close, and treasure every moment, even the insignificant ones. Run free baby Lucy. Mommy and Daddy will always hold you close in our hearts.
