Mrs. Emily Whitaker Allen, age 89, of Waco, GA, passed away March 31, 2012.
Mrs. Allen was born March 1, 1923 in Tallapoosa, GA, to the late Morgan Newton Whitaker and Hassie Whitaker Allen. Her stepfather, Clifton Allen, married her mother after her father's death in 1933. (His first wife passed away in 1932.) Clifton was also her father-in-law.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Allen; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Charles C Whitaker; a son-in-law, Rayford Buchanan ; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Ervin Cheatwood and Betty and Hoyt Haney; and a brother, Lewis Whitaker.
Mrs. Allen was a member of West View Baptist Church, retired from Hubbard's and not only was she a seamstress at work, but she enjoyed sewing for her family. She kept them in beautiful dresses and tailored suits.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa and Randy Carter of Tallapoosa and Linda Buchanan of Waco; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dewaine and Debbie Allen of Cedartown, Dennis and Leigh Allen of Tallapoosa and Danny Allen of Waco; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM from West View Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Munroe and Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Music will be provided by Timmy Hand, Barbara Barkley, Clarice Casey and the West View church choir under the direction of Tommy Allen.
Pallbearers serving will be Brandon Lee, Ethan Lee, Kyle Allen, Jarret Allen, Brian Barkley and Mitchell Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Laney Haney, David Robinson, Ken Barkley and Donnie Robinson.
Interment will follow in Bethany Church Cemetery.
