Clara was the daughter of Walter Collins and Mary Jane Reed Collins. She was the sister of Fairie, Emma, Walter Jr. (Buck), and Virginia. She married Charlie Polan when she was 16 years old, on March 3, 1925. They were married on horseback by his father, who was a minister. Their children were Nina, Gertie, Maxine, Bernard, Charles, and Joan. Charlie lost his mind and was committed to Weston State Hospital in Weston, WV, where he later died. After his death, Clara married Jerry Kelley. They had two children, Karen Kelley and Jerry Wayne Kelley. Jerry was killed in 1949 by a train. After her children were all grown, Clara married Aubra McClain, a childhood friend. Aubra and Clara lived in the Kelley house on Sugar Camp in Doddridge County.
