Arlene Ethel Olson age 87, of Crosby, ND passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Crosby.

Arlene E. Olson was born on March 12, 1931 in Drake, ND the daughter of the late Charles and Lizzie (Schwede) Knuth. She attended country school in Strege Township in McHenry County through the 8th grade. Arlene held various jobs of helping women with homemaking and child care mainly in the Minot area. She was very proud to have worked 10 years as a nurse’s aide at Trinity hospital where she met her husband, “that good looking guy”, Glen Olson. After uniting in marriage with Glen on May 23, 1959, she moved to Crosby and lived on the family farm with Glen, raising their three children, grains, gardens, and animals. Arlene was very involved with her church Peace Lutheran where she participated in ladies aide and also served for many years as the Sunday School superintendent. Arlene was an American Legion Auxiliary 50 year member and also was active in the VFW Auxiliary. For many years, Arlene enjoyed volunteering at the local nursing home calling Bingo on Saturdays with her friends, and also was employed for a time serving lunch in the evenings to the residents. Arlene continued her love for nurse’s aide work by being employed with Home Health Care.

Arlene’s love and interests revolved around her family. She didn’t want to miss out on anything! She generously shared her baked treats and home cooked dishes with many, especially her grandchildren. Birds were very special to Arlene and there wasn’t a plant she couldn’t revive. It was amazing! Anyone who had visited her could see the love she had for her family, plants, flowers, and birds and was also fed a good lunch. She was a wonderful mother and grandma. Arlene truly loved her family — and her family truly loved her.

Surviving family includes: daughters Beverly Nygaard and Brenda (Randy) Ekness; grandsons, Lynn (Andrea) and Lee (Crissy) Nygaard; granddaughters, Marissa (Kevin) Ratcliffe and Kellie Ekness; great-grandchildren: Brenden, Bailey, Tia, Charlie, Easton, Trey, Espen, Arianna, Nevaeh, and Emberly; sisters, Videll Kubler and Carolyn (Dalip) Gupta; brother-in-law Loren Fenner; Godchildren, Barb Couillard, Brad Fuhrman and Mary Ehrmantraut, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen, son James, son-in-law Kent Nygaard, and great-grandson Lane McCombs, Sisters, Vernita (Jim) Clauson, Elvera Fenner, and brothers, Marlin (Sadie), Willis, and Donald (Mary) Knuth.
