He was married to Kathryne Anderson, daughter of Peter G. "Pete" and Elizabeth (...?) Anderson, on Wednesday, November 27, 1929.

Herschel Mayfield, 73 of 513 Chestnut St., Quincy, IL, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 1979 in his home.
He was born Thursday October 5, 1905 in Marcelline, IL, a son of Lamont and Lena Powell Mayfield. He had lived in Quincy for 50 years and was a member of the First Christian Church and the Mississippi Vally Coon Hunters. He was a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He married Kathryne Anderson, November 27, 1929; she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Don, of Jacksonville, IL and Larry of Milwaukee, Oregan; two brothers, Leland of Dixon, IL and Elbert of Seaside, California; a sister Mrs. Wilma Robertson of Quincy, and five grand-children. He was proceeded in death by a son, a brother and a sister. Services will be held at 10 am Saturday in the Duker funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bill Riggs. Burial will be in the New Providence Cemetery in Ursa.
