It is unknown when Paul arrived in the United States, however, he arrived in Bedford County in 1771. He was a private under Captain William McCall, and fought in the Seventh Company of the 3rd Battalion in the Revolutionary War. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Militia. He married Catherine Stiffler, a Bedford resident, in 1788. They had 10 children: Henry, Jacob, Elizabeth, Catherine, Rebecca, Sarah, Mary, Ann, Paul Jr., and John.
