He was the son of James and Betty (Kelley) Sampson.
Surviving are three brothers: James (Carla), John (Kathy) and Patrick (Cathy) Sampson, all St. Marys; two sisters: Julie (James) Hollman, St. Marys, and Anna (Kevin) Katterhenry, Celina; and a brother-in-law, Dean Wale, St. Marys.

Retired from Auglaize Industries, New Bremen, he loved being outdoors, fishing, bowling, golfing and participating in the Auglaize County Special Olympics. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends at Heritage Manor in Minster, and Benchmark. He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, with the Rev. Barry Stechschulte officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
