Manitowoc - Charles F. Schmidt, age 67, a Manitowoc resident, died Friday morning, August 10, 2018 at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on October 7, 1950 in Manitowoc, son of the late Jerome and Dolores (Hammel) Schmidt. Charles was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1969. In July of 1991 he married Charlotte (Filipek) Baxter in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2018. Charles was employed as a press operator with Brillion Iron Works until his retirement. Charles loved working in his workshop. He was always doing something. Charles and his daughters spent many weekends camping when the girls were younger.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Wendy and Kevin Grelson, Appleton and Koren Zipperer, Brillion; Two step-sons: Joseph (Ashley) Baxter, Steve (Melissa) Baxter; 6 grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard and Diane Schmidt, John and Lisa Schmidt, Kevin and Barb Schmidt; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Rosie and Bill Brunner, Patsy and Duwayne Retlich, Joan Evrard, Carol and Scott Niven; two brothers-in-law: Conrad Knier, John Filipek; two sisters-in-law: Marie (Art) Halmstad and Eleanor Filipek. He is further survived by three Godchildren: Kevin Schmidt, Jessica (Schmidt) Montgomery and Kimberly Mella, as well as the mother of his children: Monica (Mella) Schmidt. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife: Charlotte Schmidt; parents: Jerome and Delores Schmidt; one son-in-law: Bryan Zipperer; a step-daughter: Rosalie Baxter; one sister: Shirley Knier; two brothers: Michael Schmidt, Robert Schmidt; and one nephew: Michael Brunner.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
