John moved to Reno in the early 70s and became an integral part of Reno. He was active with the Reno Philharmonic, St. Marys Hospital, Nevada Opera, Old School College of Law, and the Nevada Museum of Art. Johns was born in New York City and had three siblings: Peter Flanigan, Bobby Flanigan and Peggy Flanigan. He went to Princeton University, MIT, and he attended Harvard Business School. He was a lieutenant in the Air Force during WWII and was an aide to Joseph Keenans, Chief Prosecutor of the Japanese War Trials.

John went into the family business and became VP of sales for Anheuser Busch for the Western United States. He also served on the board of AB and retired in 1972. John ran the Nixon re- election campaign for the state of California in 1972. John served on several boards locally and nationally and gave of himself often and unselfishly. John was a member of the Bohemian Club and the Pacific Union Club of San Francisco for 53 years. He was a man of many great ideas. Happy, generous, loving, hard- headed, hard working, and hard playing all describe the man with no middle name.
