Carlota Clark Chouteau Busch Webster

Palm Beach - Carlota Clark Chouteau Busch Webster, born July 19, 1927, in St. Louis, MO passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021, at her residence in Palm Beach, FL.

She was the daughter of August A. Busch, Jr. and Marie Christie Church Busch.

Carlota "Lotsie" (as many of her friends called her) was a creative, philanthropist, volunteer, wife, and a loving mother. Mom shared her love, wit, and wisdom so freely and she was the centerpiece of our family.

In 1946, at 19, she married John Flanigan, and eventually moved to Pasadena, CA where they raised four children.

Lotsie started 'Busch Gardens' in Tampa, FL, Williamsburg, VA, and Los Angeles, CA, with her father, and in later years convinced the A/B (Anheuser-Busch) Board of Directors that Busch Gardens should become their own operating division. Lotsie remodeled all of the breweries for public tours.

Lotsie produced the City of St. Louis float entry in the Pasadena Rose Parade for over 33 years. Her many philanthropic activities include:

Muscular Dystrophy Board
Harvey Mudd College Board (Claremont, CA)
President of the LA Zoo
President of the Pasadena Humane Society
African Wildlife Foundation (Washington, DC
St. John's Hospital (Santa Monica, CA)
Good Samaritan St. Mary's Hospital (Palm Beach, FL)

Fedrick E. Giersch, was the second love of her life married in 1969. She had two step children, Frederick E. Giersch III, Judy Stach and husband Paul.

In 1989, Lotsie married Daniel Fielder Webster, and made Palm Beach, FL her permanent residence.

Her favorite clubs were the Bath & Tennis Club and the Everglades Club of Palm Beach, along with the Valley Hunt Club of Pasadena.

An accomplished horsewoman, Lotsie showed hunters at Madison Square Gardens NY, and the Cow Palace in San Francisco. All animals were her passion.

Our mom was happily reunited with her son John Flanigan, Grandson Ryan Reynolds, and step son Fredrick E. Giersch III.

Among Mom's many survivors: Her Loving Children; 2 step children; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 step grand children and great grand children.

Mom's favorite quote was that of Winston Churchill "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Out of an abundance of caution, the memorial will be postponed until further notice.

If you see a red cardinal fly by in the weeks ahead, that is Mom saying goodbye.
