She was born in Pittsburgh, PA. the daughter of the late John Rymer and Helen Rymer-Moore.
She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1959. While a student, she was a member of A Cappella Choir. She was selected as a member of WV All-State Chorus.
In 1963, she graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA with a Bachelor of Music Degree (Majoring in Voice and minoring in Piano and Organ). During her 4 years at JMU, she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Sigma Alpha lota Honorary Music Fraternity, and member/soloist in the touring choir.
After graduation from JMU, she taught music at Belpre Junior and Senior High School. She was chosen to create the music curriculum for elementary grades 4-6. In addition to teaching, she was the Organist and Choir Director for the Congregational Church in Belpre OH and taught piano lessons.
On August 1,1964, Barbara married William (Bill) Bailey. They were married 54 years. He brought the best out in her.
During her lifetime, she was involved with various community organizations. She was a member of the Junior League of Parkersburg, Parkersburg Choral Society, and the Board of the Parkersburg Day Nursery.
Her church, Trinity Episcopal Church, meant so much to her. She was Superintendent of the Sunday School Program. She also served on the Vestry where she was elected Senior Warden. She spent many years working with the Columbarium Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Daughters of the King, St. Anne’s Guild, and member of the church choir. Both she and her husband were given the Cross of Appreciation for their many years of service doing God’s work.
Barbara had several hobbies such as reading, gardening, floral arranging and needle pointing.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, William Bailey, daughter Elizabeth Potts (JW) of Parkersburg, WV and son John S Bailey, II of Parkersburg. 3 Grandchildren Michael West, Catharine West, and Emma West. 2 Step Grandchildren Kylee Potts and Trey Potts. Many nieces and cousins also.
In addition to her parents, John Rymer and Helen Rymer Moore, she is preceded in death by her sister Cathy Rymer, Mother and Father in law, John S Bailey Sr and Matilda M. Bailey, and Brother in Law, John S. Bailey, Jr.
Services will be Tuesday 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church with The Venerable G.T. Schramm and The Reverend Arthur L. Bennett III officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 4-8 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
