Abner Adkins
January 01, 1934 - August 20, 2018
Abner (A.J.) Adkins Jr., age 84, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at the Pikeville Medical Center. A.J. was born on January 1, 1934 to his parents the late Abner Adkins Sr. and Bessie Justice Adkins. A.J. was the husband of Nada B. Adkins, retired employee for C & O Railroad, and a believer of the Baptist faith. A.J. was a humble man that cared for others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or a friend in need. To the family and friends that knew him he touched many of their homes with his excellent carpentry work and passed those skills on to a host of loved ones.
Along with his parents, A.J. was preceded in death by one sister, Avalene Stalker, and three brothers, Ralph, Dorse Gene, and Ronald Edward Adkins.
Along with his loving wife, Nada, A.J. is survived by four children, William Bucky (Carrie) Adkins, Melinda (Jimmy) Justice, Jerry Lee (Sherry) Adkins, Gary (Susan) Adkins, one brother, Elster Adkins, one sister, Vestalene Hall, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Wednesday at 7p.m. with Mike Hopson officiating. The funeral will be Thursday, August 23, 2018, at the graveside only at Johnson Memorial Park at 2p.m. with Neal Coleman officiating
