Mildred C. "Millie" Dewaele, age 95, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley. Millie was born on January 12, 1916 in Honey Creek, Iowa to Hans and Christena (Rasmussen) Hemmingsen. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1934 then attended University of Omaha. Millie married Joe M. Dewaele and to that union was blessed with three children. She taught country school for a time, worked as a checker for a local grocery store in Missouri Valley and also worked for Hennessey-Aman Funeral home. Millie loved baking and quilting. She was member of the Community of Christ Church, past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and served on the board for Culavin Heights.
Survivors include her daughter: Nancy Jo Powers of Wayne, Nebraska; sons: Dean Dewaele and wife Jean; Doug Dewaele and wife Virginia both of Missouri Valley, Iowa; four grandsons; four granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one great granddaughter; brother: Franklin Hemmingsen and wife Virginia of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
