H. Franklin Hemmingsen, age 98, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away March 30, 2012, at his home.
Franklin was born August 11, 1913, in Crescent, Iowa, to the late Hans and Stena (Rasmussen) Hemmingsen. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1932. Franklin married Virginia M. Hough on August 11, 1937. They were blessed with one daughter, Kay. Franklin worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Putnam Oil, Council Bluffs Community Schools and IWCC, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Community of Christ Church and served as a deacon.
In addition to his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Franklin is survived by his wife of 74 years, Virginia M. Hemmingsen; daughter, Kay Gaupp, both of Council Bluffs; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family Sunday, April 8, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral Service Monday, April 9, 2012, 10:30 a.m., at Community of Christ Church-Central Congregation Church, 140 W. Kanesville Blvd. Elder Tom Arnold will officiate.
