James WOOD II is the son of James WOOD I of Scotland and his wife Mary Ann Kelly FLAXMORE. His parents immigrated to America and are believed to have settled in Fairview, Buncombe, North Carolina.

It is documented in the book "Bryson Family of Western North Carolina" by Lawrence E. Wood, that Henry and Margaret Bryson Wood are buried in Cullowhee Baptist Church Cemetery, which church, Henry was a charter member. Although we are unable to find his grave, there are many graves marked as unknown.

James WOOD II from Ulster, Northern Ireland immigrated to America and settled in the Yadkin Valley, now Wilkes County, North Carolina. Apparently he met his wife, Margaret (Bryson) BAIN, on the voyage to America. It is suggested they were married in 1744 Yadkin Valley, now Wilkes County, North Carolina.

Six children have been identified for this couple:

1. Nancy Ann WOOD, b. 18 Sep 1745 Yadkin Valley, Wilkes County, North Carolina; d. 17 Feb 1833 Fairview, Buncombe County, North Carolina.

2. James WOOD III, b. 1750 Yadkin Valley, Wilkes County, North Carolina; d. 1793 Tennessee

3. Frances WOOD, b. 1752 Yadkin Valley, Wilkes County, North Carolina; d. ?

4. Catherine WOOD, b. 1754 Yadkin Valley, Wilkes County, North Carolina; d. ?

5. John Thomas WOOD, b. 1765 Buncombe County, North Carolina; d. 06 Sep 1824 Boone County, Missouri

6. Henry Taylor WOOD, b. 1767 Buncombe County, North Carolina; d. 1850 Fairview, Buncombe County, North Carolina.

Agnes Ann "Annie" YORK, age 20, married Henry Taylor WOOD, age 23, on 1790 in Wilkes County, North Carolina.
They were the parents to four known children:

1. Thomas W Wood, b. 1793 NC; d. 1880 NC
2. Cynthia Bryson WOOD, b. 1806 NC; d. 1886 NC
3. John Thomas WOOD, b. 1807 NC; d. 1880 NC
4. Elizabeth Bryson WOOD, b. 1810 NC; d. 1880 NC

It is suggested Annie died at child birth from complications at their last child in 1810 in Haywood County, North Carolina. This scenario is supported by the marriage of her widowed husband Henry Taylor WOOD in 1811 to his second wife, Margaret "Peggy" BRYSON.

Suggested Edit by Patricia Callahan:
All indications are that Henry was born in the Yadkin River Valley (the area became Wilkes County), North Carolina. His father was born in Northern (Ulster) Ireland.

His 1st wife was Agnes Ann "Annie" York born 1770 in Guilford (Randolph) County, North Carolina, died 1810 Haywood County, Tennessee. They were married abt 1790.
