Services for Melvin Rudolph Haggstrom, 70, will be held today at 1 p.m. at St.
Benedict's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Goehring officiating. Mr.
Haggstrom died Feb. 10 at his home in Anchorage.

Born Aug. 12, 1915 in Wolbach, Neb., he and his wife, Arlene, came to Anchorage
in 1951. He worked as an auto and truck mechanic until his retirement in 1978.
He enjoyed taking his family hunting and fishing and was an enthusiastic
gardener. He also enjoyed entertaining on his two-row button box accordian.
After his retirement, he devoted himself to having serious fun playing for
people at the Pioneer Home, St. Patrick's PolkaFest, Our Lady of Compassion Care
Center, The Sons of Norway, The Polish American Club and the Holy Family
Cathedral fundraisers.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, and her mother, Mary Steele, of Anchorage;
two sons, Dale, of Fairbanks, and Daryl, of Anchorage; his daughter, Elsa Tooley
of Anchorage; his sisters, Violet Johnson of Illionois and Lillie Bussell and
Mildred Falk of Colorado; and brothers, Kenneth, Orville and Gus, of California;
and six grandchildren. Burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park. In lieu of
flowers the family requests memorial contributions be directed to the charity of
the donor's choice. Arrangements by Kehl's Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel.
