Courtier. Born the daughter of Henry and Alice Parry at Newcourt, Bacton, Herefordshire. In 1536 she became gentlewoman in the household of Princess Elizabeth. After Elizabeth's accession in 1558, she was promoted to Chief Gentlewoman of the Privy Chamber. In 1565 she was appointed Keeper of the Queen's Books and Jewels. Though she was never ennobled, her position was very profitable, including her salary, maintenance, gifts, grants of privileges and of estates, and grateful legacies from those aided by her. She received Llangorse Lake from the queen as a gift, and she acquired lands in Herefordshire and Yorkshire. Toward the end of her life she became blind. She died, unmarried, at about 83. Although she had at one time built a tomb for herself at Bacton, she was ultimately buried in Saint Margaret's, Westminster. In 1811 the church at Atcham, near Shrewsbury, had a stained-glass window commemorating her installed.
