Born Jan, out of wedlock to Geessiena Nieman (born 29 May 1860 at Uithuizermeeden). Upon her marriage 24 Aug 1883 at Uithuizermeeden to Willem Guillelmus Fredericus Denhof (born 3 Mar 1857 at Uithuizen) he was adopted. The family of 4 arrived 29 May 1890 in Buenos Aires with his sister Hermina (born Lammina 7 May 1884 Uithuizermeeden). There is another son Federico born in 1893 at Santa Fe. In the 1895 census the children appear with the family of Federico Stoffel and at this point unsure what happened to Willem and Geessiena.
