CARL WILLIAM STOCKMEIER
(1914 - 2010)

Carl William Stockmeier, age 95, 950 S. Rapids Road, Manitowoc, went home to his Lord on Friday evening, May 21, 2010.

Carl was born on June 8, 1914, in the town of Newton, the son of the late Gustav and Ella Rodewald Stockmeier. Carl attended White Trail Grade School graduating as an eighth grade Honor Student. On Sept. 26, 1936, he was united in marriage to Margaret Dehne at St. John's Reformed Church in the town of Centerville by the Rev. Edward Nuss. Carl and Margaret farmed the Stockmeier homestead until 1966, and continued to reside there until 1997, when they moved to Cleveland. In March of 2008, Carl and Margaret moved to River Wood Estates where Carl resided until the present time. Margaret passed away Dec. 4, 2009. Carl worked in the maintenance department at Lakeland College for 22 years. Following his retirement from Lakeland he was self-employed as a carpenter/cabinet maker until he was 88 years of age. Carl enjoyed singing. He was a member of the Clipper City Chordsmen of Manitowoc, for 46 years. He was a member of the St. Marks U.C.C, in the town of Mosel. He sang in his church's choir and directed the choir for a number of years. Carl also enjoyed card games, especially Skat. For a number of years he was a "regular" at the Wednesday afternoon Manitowoc Senior Center Skat table. He was also a member of the Cleveland Senior Citizens where he enjoyed cards and friendships during his years in Cleveland.

Carl is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Gertrude and Edward Free, Cleveland; granddaughter and husband: Tammy and Loren Horswill; and great-grandson: Cody Horswill Hingham.

Preceding him in death are his wife; grandson: Terry Free; infant twin great-grandchildren: Scott and Christine Horswill; brother-in-law and sister-in law: Harold and Helen Dehne; and nephews: Eugene Dehne and Harold Dehne, Jr.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mark's U.C.C., N9286 Dairyland Road (3-1/2 miles south of Cleveland). The Rev. William Kesting Jr. will officiate and burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in the town of Centerville. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m., Thursday, May 27, 2010, until the hour of service.

The Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel of Cleveland is assisting the family with these funeral arrangements.

A memorial fund for St. Mark's U.C.C. and Lakeland College has been established in Carl's name.

A special thank you from Gerty to the entire staff at River Wood Estates for the care and concern given to my parents during their years of residence. You are all wonderful! Also a big thank you to SouthernCare Hospice for the care given Dad in his final days.
