Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He was born in Brunswick, Germany. He entered the U.S. Army in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as a Corporal in Company B, 8th U.S. Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for action during August 13 and October 31, 1868 in the vicinity of the Black Mountains, Arizona. His citation reads "Bravery in scouts and actions against Indians."
