Jonathan Glidden, Esq., was a blacksmith and a husbandman. He resided in Exeter 1755 to 1762; in the Deerfield Parish of Nottingham, 1765 to 1775 and in Unity 1776 to 1818. He held many important offices. In the Parish meetings of Deerfield he was chosen an assessor in 1766, selectman in 1767 and 1768 when he signed as Jonathan Glidden Jr., moderator and selectman in 1769, selectman and pound keeper 1770, selectman, 1771, 1772, and pound keeper 1773, assessor and pound keeper 1774 and 1775.

He was collector for Unity in 1774, 1775 and 1776. The proprietors of Unity laid out land to him in 1778. On 24th Jan 1786 the Town records of Unity call him Capt. Jonathan Glidden and he signs as Jonathan Glidden Jr. He was also frequently called Jonathan Glidden, Esq. In 1794 he lived on lot No. 191 in Eighth Range in Unity. In 1790 his family consisted of one male over 16 years, one male under 16 and three females. (N. H. Census, 1790.)

Stephen Glidden was appointed administrator of the estate of Jonathan Glidden, Esq., late of Unity, 21 Jan. 1818. His inventory included his homestead of 50 acres, being one half of lot No. 97 in the Third Range, lying in common with the land of Stephen Glidden. (Cheshire Probate Records, G. 127.)

He resided on Glidden's Hill in the western part of Unity.
