Rockwood - Peter J. Schwantes, age 92, a Rockwood resident, died Thursday morning, October 4, 2018 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
He was born on September 30, 1926 in Two Rivers, son of the late Ernst and Rose (Krause) Schwantes. Peter was a Veteran of the United States Army and Navy. On November 9, 1957 he married the former Catherine Kluczykowski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1997. Peter was employed as a mechanic at Rockwell Lime Company, Rockwood (Carmeuse). He was a past member of the Rockwood Fire Department and a member of the American Legion, Francis Creek Sportsmans Club and Rockwood Lutheran Church. Peter also was a coach for the Rockwood Pee Wees.
Survivors include his children: Sue and Greg Schmeichel, Two Rivers, Ann and John Schermetzler, Manitowoc, Sandy Schwantes, Green Bay, Edward and Terri Schwantes, Manitowoc, Jim and Sue Schwantes, Appleton; his grandchildren: Nicole and Chris Drew, Justin Schmeichel and special friend Amanda Horkman, Ashley and Tyler Schermetzler, Adam Schwantes and fiancée Brittney Bekkers, Allison Schwantes, and Phillip and Emily Grambsch and two sisters-in-law: Betty Kerscher and Louise Kluczykowski. He was preceded in death by his wife: Catherine; and further preceded in death by brothers, sisters, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Rockwood Lutheran Church, Rockwood. Officiating at the Service will be Pastor Bruce Schwark burial at St. Anne's Cemetery, Francis Creek.
