Politician. A medical doctor, he entered local politics and later was elected to the Congress of Parana, where he opposed the politics of Urquiza. He was Senator for San Juan where he was a noted orator, and Mitre assigned him the Ministry of the Interior, a duty he discharged with great responsibility during the war with Paraguay. He remained active in politics till his retirement in 1880.
