Cinematographer. He came as a child to the United States and learns his photographic skills in the late 1920s in Hollywood, starting as a camera assistant at First National and later Warner Brothers. Rising to camera operator around 1935 he remains in this position until the early post-war period. In 1947 he finally got the chance to shoot his first picture as a full fledged director of photography. For the rest of his career working mainly for Universal-International he photographed numerous classics and box-office hits of the studio, among them "Francis" (1949), "The Prince Who Was a Thief" (1951), "Here Come the Nelsons" (1952), "Bend of the River" (1952), "The Mississippi Gambler" (1953), "The Black Shield of Falworth" (1954), "Captain Lightfoot" (1955) and "The Tarnished Angels" (1957). Other credits include "The Web" (1947), "Black Bart" (1948), "Sword in the Desert" (1949), "Backlash" (1956) and "Twilight for the Gods" (1958). He died during production of "Cry Tough."
