Grace Cronin Schmitt, Age 78, of San Jose, California. Passed away in the hospital. The second day of November 2018. She will be greatly missed…

The funeral service for her will be held Saturday, November 10th at 11:00 am, Bishop Black of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be officiating at 6625 Camden Ave, San Jose, California 95120. Interment will follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park at 1:00 pm, 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Rd, San Jose, California 95124. Funeral arrangements handled by Chapel of the Hills, Los Gatos, California.

Grace was born the 28th day of October 1940 in a small Adobe house located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her family moved to Redwood City, California in 1941. Grace and the family consisting of her father Charles, mother Vivian, and brothers Vernon and Ralf lived in a small house on Valota Street. Grace graduated from Sequoia High School in 1958. She greatly enjoyed visiting the Los Angeles LDS temple just before its formal dedication on March 11th 1956.

Grace would get a welcomed addition to her family during her high school years. Her parents brought in a foster sister, Judy Brush. Judy and Grace have always been very close. Judy now lives in Jackson, California with her husband Jack.

Grace moved in 1962 to the Del Charro apartments in Mountain view, California where she would meet her future husband Bob Schmitt. They were married in Carson City Nevada on July 13th 1963. They moved to Milpitas, California in 1964. Grace and Bob expanded the family with the birth of a daughter Rana in 1964 and a son Alan in 1966.

She found a new hobby in 1968 genealogy this would become a passion possibly an obsession for the rest of her life. She would become a proud member of the Santa Clara County Historical and Genealogical Society where she held many positions including Vice President and taught many classes to beginner genealogists.

While working at Caelus industries in 1973 she would ask a coworker Robert Schrader why he was limping. He responded he had crashed his racecar the previous weekend. This would lead to another lifelong hobby... Auto racing. She got the whole family into the sport. She would go on to be a most valuable pit crewmember for many different drivers. Constantly volunteering for different positions in Sports Car Club of America including a rule-making seat on the Competition Board. Grace also authored a book on how to crew for a racecar and taught a class on the same subject.

In 1974, the family including her mother Vivian moved to the current family residence in San Jose California.

In 1994, Grace and Bob moved in to Plaza Del Rey Mobile Home Park in Sunnyvale and her son Alan, his wife Anne sons Jason and Anthony moved into the San Jose home. In 1999 Drake Alan Schmitt was born.

Daughter Rana is currently living in Boise Idaho.

In more times that are recent Grace and Bob have enjoyed travelling across this great country in their RV. .Always doing what they loved to do, going to countless racetracks, genealogy libraries, historic locations, and most of all visiting Family .

Grace was preceded into death by her parents Charles and Vivian, [brothers] Ralf, Vernon, [niece] Shawn, and [nephew] Kevin.

Survived by husband Bob, [children] Rana and Alan. [Grandchildren] Anthony, Jason, and Drake [Great Grandchildren] Nylah and Leona. [Nieces] Vickie, Kathy, Janet, Lauren, [Nephews] Paul, Danny, Mark, Mike, Dane, and Michael Polvani. [Mother in law] Mary Turner, 97 [brothers and sisters in law] Shane, Clint, Rose, David, Silvia, Veda, and Mike.
