Sallie S. Jones was the daughter of Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas. Anson Jones was a physician by profession, originally from Great Barrington, Connecticut, who settled in the old town of Brazoria in 1822 and practiced there until he became secretary of state under Sam Houston. He was a surgeon on the battlefield of San Jacinto, and in 1845 resigned the office of president when Texas became a state of the American Union. He died at Houston in 1858.
