Parents were Peter Cleaver & Elizabeth Potts, married 4 Oct 1722 at Abington Meeting. Peter's brother John Cleaver was married to Elizabeth Levering & their son Peter Cleaver was born 1mo 1, 1732, d. 14 May 1819 at Port Penn, DE. [See Will of John Cleaver, signed 25 Oct 1773, proved 6 Nov 1773, PA Will Bk P, pg 478]

"A Testimony from Warrington Monthly Meeting concerning our Friend Peter Cleaver"
He was the son of Peter & Elizabeth Cleaver, born the 20th of the 12th month 1730/31 in Philadelphia and in the early part of his life removed into York County within the limits of this Meeting.
In 1759 he was appointed to the Station of an Elder, in which he was truely Serviceable.
He was several times appointed, with other friends in the weighty service of visiting families, and we believe it due to his memory to say, that he was a valuable and Useful member of our Meeting, and that his Survivors sensibly feel the loss of so serviceable a friend.
He departed this Life the 12th of the 8th month 1795 and attended by a large number of Friends and Neighbours, was decently interred in Friends burying ground at Warrington, aged upwards of 64 years.

The correct year of his birth would be 1731. The system of hyphenating years was created when the Julian Calendar (created 45 BC) was refined by the Gregorian Calendar (created 1582). During this transition, the system of double dating the year was created. Both dates were correct - the 1st year hyphenated was under the Julian calendar and the 2nd year hyphenated was under the Gregorian calendar

[It would appear the the headstone was placed posthumously by an heir and that the numerical to nominal date of death was erroneously transposed from '12th day of 8th month' to '8th day of 12th month'.
