Charles `` Snooks'' Brennan, a longtime valley resident, died Friday -- he rode off to cowboy heaven.
He was born Jan. 29, 1914, in Butte to John and Grace (Stewart) Brennan. He spent his early years in Pine Creek, Idaho, and was a Butte miner several years.
He moved in his early 20s to Whitehall, where he has resided since.
The Whitehall ranches he worked for include the Shaw, Hinton, Ogan and Tebay.
He shoed mules for the government, was a cook for the park service hunting camps and broke horses many years.
Snooks was know for his quiet demeanor and he always had a joke to tell.
He served in the Army during World War II and was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked.
He served two enlist ments and was a life mem ber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4603 in Whitehall.
His parents; brothers, James, Gerald, John and Thomas; and sisters, Agnes and Margaret, preceded Snooks in death.
Survivors include his nieces, Betty Malek of Rocklin, Calif., Ethel Lafave, Winthrop, N.Y., and cousin, the Rev. Tom Fenlon, Butte.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Scott Funeral Home in Whitehall with the Rev. Joseph Finnegan officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Whitehall Cemetery.
