OKLAHOMA CITY
John Curtis Branch was born 1 October 1934 on the Branch farm near Buffalo, OK to Ernest Samuel and Ethel Imogene (Parsons) Branch. His spirit left earth on Thursday, 6 December 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City with his loving family around him. Memorial Service will be held on January 3, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Cross at Church of the Servant. He married Jacqueline Joyce "Jackie" Davis on 20 July 1960 at Alva, and they became parents of three daughters, Kim, Karla, and KayLynn. He loved his family and kept a close watch over all his "girls" including his wife, daughters, and granddaughters. John completed school and he graduated from BHS Class of 1952. While in college at Northwestern in Alva, he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and enjoyed many adventures including two years active duty service overseas. At age 21, he held a top-secret clearance in the Intelligence section of the Oklahoma National Guard during the Korean War, serving with the 7th US Army 35th Field Artillery stationed in Swabisch-Gmund, Germany. After graduating from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry, he went on to complete his master's degree in preventive medicine and public health from The University of Oklahoma Medical Center in 1963. He then accepted a research position with focus on parasitology at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, graduating from there with a Doctor of Philosophy in his field of preventive medicine. On completion of his doctorate in 1964, Branch accepted the professorship of biology with Oklahoma City University, serving for a time as head of the department before retiring from there after almost 50 years and having touched the lives of many. He attended OCU Law School at night and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1980 and became a founding partner in the Branch & Hurtt Law Firm, P.C. in Oklahoma City, focusing on various areas of law, where he earned the respect and trust of his peers and clients. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma Academy of Science, and the Fraternities of Sigma Xi and Beta Beta Beta. He is named in the International Who's Who of Professionals since 1995. Along with a long career as a professor, he accumulated more than thirty years' experience as an Oklahoma Probate, Estate and Trust Attorney, practicing law in the municipal, state and tribal courts of Oklahoma, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern and/or Western District of Oklahoma. He continued in law practice, going to work every day up to the hospitalization of his last illness. All his family respected him and depended on him for his wise decisions and advice in every area of life. Many others say they looked up to him as a father or brother. He is survived by his family who loved him dearly: his wife, Jackie; and their daughters, Kim Branch Lucas and her daughter, Taylor Lucas; Karla and husband Terrance Cason and their children, Jake, Jordan, and Jeffrey Olivarez, and Katie and Tucker Cason; KayLynn and husband Victor Dewberry and their children, Hunter, Ramsey, and Tommy; and sister, Carolyn Leonard Heavner and husband John Heavner; all from OKC. He is also survived by many nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews that he loved dearly and who have been so attentive to him through the years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Imogene Branch; his brother, William E. "Bill" Branch; his wife's parents, Howard and Lydia Davis; sister-in-law, Rose Titsworth; brother-in-law, David Dubbs; nephew, Howard Titsworth; and niece, Jacci Mooneyham. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to the local Regional Food Bank, 3355 S. Purdue St., Oklahoma City, OK 73179; and to Church of the Servant, 14343 N. McArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73142. When death comes to such a good man and great teacher, life is diminished for all who remain.
