She was born in Gilberton, March 9, 1931, to the late Michael and Pauline Kapushnick Powanda.
Kathryn was a 1949 graduate of Gilberton High School and a 1952 graduate of the Ashland State General Hospital School of Nursing. She also loved going to Atlantic City.
She was a retired registered nurse having worked at the former Ashland State General Hospital for over 30 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Achenbach, in 1973; a son, Steven Achenbach, in 2014; a daughter, Baby Karen Achenbach; seven brothers and six sisters. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Kathryn is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Reed with her husband, Larry, Pottsville; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Caryn and Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Devon, Dylan, Melanie and Sara; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Annunciation BVM Church, St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Frackville, with the Rev. Brian Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, and then from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
