According to an article appearing in The Tennessean, Sep 1 1886, Adelle Arlington was a "soiled dove" who had come to Memphis earlier in the year. She was employed at one of the houses on Gayoso street. She committed suicide in the room of W.A. Brown who was living on the west side of the city. He went for a physician but it was too late. Among the demi-monde she was known as Minnie Allen and was also the adopted daughter of Pauline Livingstone. Mrs. Livingstone had died several months prior. It was rumored that Addie had married Mr. Brown and it was proved when they found a license showing that Brown had married her Aug 9 1886 in Marion Ark. Brown denied marrying her but he did pay for the funeral expenses.
