ON THE BELT
Yesterday afternoon about 2:30, while Tom Bennett was at work in the Homestake Mine at a 200 foot level, in stope No. 1 south, he received a compound fracture of his left leg, caused by getting his limb caught between a falling rock and some timbers. Dr. Dickinson dressed his wound and put it in plaster paris.

Tom Bennetts (sic), the unfortunate man who had his leg broken while at work in the Homestake mine Monday, died yesterday at 2 p.m. Funeral today at 2 p.m. from his residence on Mill street, to be interred in the South Lead cemetery. He was a member in good standing of the Miners' Union, which will take charge of the funeral.

Tom Bennett was buried yesterday afternoon in the South Lead cemetery. He was a member in good standing of the Miners' Union. The funeral was a large one. All the Miners' Union men that were at leisure fell in line with the Foresters. The Washington band led the sad procession to the grave, followed by the members of the Union and Forester. Rev. Tracey officiated.
