David "Dave" Robert Grotegut, age 57 resident of the town of Newton, passed away at Froedert Memorial Hospital, Wauwatosa, on Thursday, January 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dave was born in Manitowoc, WI on July 31, 1961 to Ival and Dorothy (Meyer) Grotegut. David was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. He married the love of his life, Kim Scheffler, on December 17, 1983 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Northeim, WI. Dave was co-owner and operator of Grotegut Dairy Farm, Inc. He was a member of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin and also involved with the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center in Manitowoc. Dave was a 25 year member of the Newton Volunteer Fire Department where he served in various capacities in both the Newton Volunteer Fire Department and Newton Fire Company. He was a longtime member of the Manitowoc County Dartball League, currently playing with the Pack'er Inn team. Dave was an avid watcher of all sports, especially the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed playing sheepshead, taking rides in his limited edition 1982 Chrysler LeBaron convertible. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life of 35 years: Kim; his children: Ashley Grotegut and special friend Gabe Vogel and grandson Emmett Vogel, Whitelaw; Eric Grotegut (Rosario Ibarra), St. Nazianz; Christopher Grotegut, Newton; Alyssa Grotegut and special friend, Spencer Halverson, Valders. Dave is also survived by parents: Ival and Dorothy Grotegut, Newton; brothers and sisters to include: Tom (Brenda) Grotegut, Trenton, Florida; Nancy (Mark) Mueller, Greenleaf; Debbie (Mark) Heinzen, Newton; Faye Riesterer and special friend Jim Diny, Newton; Gail (Troy) Temme, Sturgeon Bay; Doug (Jean) Grotegut, Manitowoc; Greg (Bobbi) Grotegut, Newton; Godchild: Adam (Kim) Mueller, Green Bay; mother-in-law: Geraldine Scheffler, Newton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Denise (Steve) Thomas, Newton; Renee (Dean) Fischer, Reedsville; Vicki (Manuel) Waack, Newton; Brian Scheffler, North Dakota; Robert (Lori) Scheffler, Valders; Ronald Scheffler, Jr., Newton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and very special friends. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ronald Scheffler and brother-in-law, Randall Riesterer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. James United Church of Christ, 13312 Pioneer Road in Newton. Officiating will be Rev. Ernest Huntzinger. Relatives and friends may call at St. James United Church of Christ on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and then on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
