Actress. She was best known to film viewers as 'Marion Wormer', the drunken, debauched wife of Dean Wormer on the 1978 classic film "Animal House". Born Verna Frances Bloom, she graduated from Boston University and then moved to Denver, Colorado, where she started a local theater. She later went to New York City and studied at the HB Studio. She later appeared in the Broadway revival of "Marat/Sade". In 1967, she made her acting debut on the television series "NBC Experiment in Television". She would go on to appear in various television series throughout her career including "Bonanza," "Kojak," "Police Story," "Cagney & Lacey," "The Equalizer," and "The West Wing." Her "big screen" debut came in the 1969 film "Medium Cool", where she played a young Appalachian mother caught up in the street violence of the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. She earned a nomination as both best actress and best supporting actress by the National Society of Film Critics for her performance in this film. Besides "Animal House", she also appeared in such films as "High Plains Drifter" (1973), "After Hours" (1985), and "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988). She passed away of complications of dementia.
