Caterina "Kate" Colizzi of Laterza, Italy married Peter Colizz in Italy, and came to the United States in the late 1920s. She and her husband Pete, along with his brothers John and Frank owned and operated Liberty Sweets, which was a homemade candy and ice cream store in Charlotte, MI. Later Pete became the sole proprietor of the company which he ran until 1972. It was known as the popular hangout in Charlotte for their fine assortment of confectionaries and a social gathering place. Kate and Pete had children, Ann Marie (Dan Stango), Sam (Marlene Johnson), Donald Peter (Elaine Tisch), John Vito (Joy) and took in Lucille (Richard DeWitt)LaPoint. She and Pete had grandchildren, Tony Colizzi, Greg Colizzi (Jeannine Bernardini), Lenny Stango, Nikki Colizzi-Corr, Kristina (Robert Windom)Colizzi, Monique Colizzi, Neysa Colizzi and Angel (Richard McCrumb)Colizzi.
