He graduated from Las Cruces High School. After graduating he served in the United States Air Force. He then went to work for El Paso Electric Company, retiring after 33 years. After retiring he moved to Ruidoso to live out his lifelong dream of living in the mountains. He was an amazing, loving, family man, a father figure to many. He is fondly known for always being a jokester, kind heart, and his generosity. Always wanting to help other people and not wanting anything in return.
Those left to mourn his passing included his wife and love of his life of fifty years Angelina Ontiveros. His sons Philip and Jerry Ontiveros of Las Cruces, his daughter Shelly Wiles of Minnesota, His grandchildren Priscilla, Brenden, Jerry of Las Cruces and Ashley Engel of Alaska. His great grandchild Bella Ytuarte. His brothers Frank, Rudy Ontiveros and sister Rosie Barela of Las Cruces.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, by two brothers Edward "Lalo" and Santiago Ontiveros, three sisters Minnie Lujan, Alicia Ontiveros, and Isabelle Benavidez.
Funeral services were held in La Paz-Grahams funeral home, and in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where he was laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as pallbearers were Philip, Jerry, Brenden, Jerry Patrick Ontiveros, Danny, David, Gilbert and Lawrence Sanchez. Honorary bearers were Priscilla Ontiveros and Bella Ytuarte.
