Killed by Lightning.
Mrs. James Lossing, who lived seven miles east of town, was killed by lightning during the shower Monday evening.
Mrs. Lossing and her husband were sitting on the porch when lightning struck the house and, running down the water pipe, was scattered over the screen enclosing the porch. The charge passed into Mrs. Lossing’s breast and ran down each side of her body burning to the tips of the toes.
Mr. Lossing was rendered unconscious by the shock and does not know how long he remained so. He was revived by the rain striking his face, and going to his wife he found her dead. Her shoe string was on fire but no other part of her clothing had ignited. There was no one else about the place at the time.
Mr. Lossing is an Odd Fellow and when the insurance branch of the order was organized here a few weeks ago, Mrs. Lossing took out a policy for $1000 in it.
Mr. Lossing is left quite alone, their only son having died a few years ago. He has the profound sympathy of all in his sudden awful bereavement.
