Andrew J. Wade 1847 - 1923

Andrew Jackson Wade, son of Edward and Mary Haggard Wade was born on March 9, 1847 in the Eden/Birmingham Township area of Schuyler County, in Illinois and died on April 27, 1923 near Plymouth, in the St. Mary Township area of Hancock County, Illinois. He was married to Sarah Frances Wilson on December 23, 1868 at Macomb, in McDonough County, Illinois. According to a letter his father wrote to his daughter Martha, Andrew and his wife had one child as of October 1871.

COMMENT: This first child mentioned in his father's letter must have died shortly thereafter, for later information reveals that as of 1878 they now have three children, all boys of whom the youngest was born in 1874. ...mrbrtsn

Like his father Edward Wade, who was with Andrew Jackson at the Battle for New Orleans during the War of 1812 - 1815, Andrew J. Wade was also a veteran, he enlisted at the age of 16 and fought in Company I, 119th Regiment of Illinois Voluteer Infantry during the Civil War. He is mentioned in Vol 2, page 125 of the McWherter Scrap Book.

In March of 1870, A. J. Wade was the fireman on a freight train that was hit by another freight train in an accident which resulted in the deaths of Morris Crouse, Joseph Wheeler and Elisha Hendrickson. This accident took place on March 23, 1870 between Bushnell and Quincy, near the town of Plymouth, in Hancock County, Illinois.
