Charles Barker
For 40 years a resident of North Toronto, Charles Barker, 84, died yesterday. He came to Toronto from England in 1910 and opened the first custom automobile painting shop in the northern part of the city. He conducted this business on Mt. Pleasant Ave., until failing eyesight forced him to retire. Mr. Barker was formerly active in church and musical affairs. He once conducted a prize-winning junior choir in the Crystal Palace in London. His wife, the former Sarah Ann Nash, died seven years ago. He leaves a son, and three daughters, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
