He was born Oct. 29, 1949, in Greenwood to Albert R. and Martha (Hortense) Lott Ashmore. Mr. Ashmore was a member of Elliott Baptist Church, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was also a retired firefighter having worked for many years at the Clarksdale Fire Department. Nelson was an avid outdoorsman, always enjoying the opportunity to bass fish or take a grandchild deer hunting. He was also a devoted fan of Mississippi State athletics.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Carroll County. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife Theresa (Boyette) Ashmore; one daughter and her husband, three sons and their wives, two sisters, both of Missouri and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Glenn Ashmore.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
