Earl was son of Ninian Lewis Bay and Mollie Elizabeth Jones, one of nine children. He and Lula Blanche Hamilton were married 16 Sep 1926. He had various jobs during his adult life, including working in a dairy, farming, owning a couple of pool halls, and a couple of restaurants. He was also a pitcher for a few local baseball teams and was reported by family to be quite good.
