The Catholics of Jamestown have sustained a severe loss by the death of Sister Mary Sylvester (Higgins), Superioress ofthe local Convent and School of St. Joseph. The deceased lady was a native of South Australia: She entered the congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1884, made her novitiate in the Mother House of the Order at North Shore, Sydney. Five years later, in the same place, she made the profession of the usual vows of religion. , For a few years she was engaged in teaching in several parts of New South Wales—at Villa Maria, Berry, Kiania, and Ryde ; and in each place was a great favorite with children and people. About two years ago she was sent by her superiors to her native colony, to work in the Diocese of Port Augusta. For a short time she taught in the Port Augusta school, and finally, about 18 months ago, was appointed Superioress at Jamestown. Here she remained up to the time of death. ….
