Funeral service for Mrs. Georgia Humes Jones, 94, will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. in the Estes Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Goodyear Boulevard, Picayune, Miss. Burial in the New Palestine Cemetery, Picayune, under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home, Picayune. The Rev. R.T. Buckley will officiate at the service.

Mrs. Jones passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh, N.C. She was born on Aug. 10, 1912, in Bogalusa, and grew up in Crosby, Miss., where she was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as postmistress in the 1930s. She also taught school in Crosby and Gloster, Miss.

A resident of Picayune since 1944, she taught seventh and eighth grade at Picayune Junior High School for many years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a faithful member of the choir for many years.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, R.B. Jones; father, George Humes; mother, Nancy Jane Dunn; two brothers, Harry Humes and Fred Humes; three sisters, Winnie Jones, Irene Humes and Louise Humes; and a beloved grandson, Jim Macdonald Jr.

She is survived by her son, Charles Ronald Jones of Raleigh; daughter, Carol Jones Frazier of Baton Rouge; a brother, Charles Humes of McComb, Miss.; a grandson, Brent Macdonald of Picayune; a granddaughter, Susan Smith of Raleigh; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Macdonald of Picayune, and Brandon Smith and Jessica Smith, both of Raleigh. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as a host of friends. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her.

There will be no visitation prior to the service; however, friends and family are invited to the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church following the burial service. For those who would like to send memorial gifts, donations to the Baptist Children's Village would be appreciated.
