Charles Wroten Humes, 94, of McComb, MS, died on October 30, 2014 at McComb Nursing and Rehab where he had been a resident since November of 2010.
Visitation will be Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Services from 10:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Rev. Rick Kennedy will officiate.
Mr. Humes was born on July 14, 1920 in Stephenson, which later became Crosby, MS. He was the youngest son of George and Nancy Jane Humes.
After graduating in 1939 from Crosby High School where he played running back for the football team, he moved to McComb and met his future wife of 73 years, Louise Humes.
Charles was an ICRR brakeman before serving in the Army Air Core during WWII. After being discharged in 1947, he worked in retail most of life as a men's clothing clerk at Denman Alford and as a salesman for Howell Motor Company.
He was active for many years at East McComb Baptist Church (New Heights) where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Humes was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Winnie H. Jones, Georgia H. Jones, Irene Humes, and Louise Humes; his brothers, Harry and Fred.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
