ONEIDA – Mrs. Agnes M. Poppleton, 88, of Oneida Towers, formerly of Sylvan Beach, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 18, 1986, in the extended Care Facility of Oneida City Hospital where she had been a medical patient for the past eight months.
She was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on May 18, 1898, the daughter of James and Sara Cavanaugh Moss.
In 1919, she married Moses Poppleton. He died in 1969.
She was a member of the Verona First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary of Sylvan Beach Post and the Sylvan Beach Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Poppleton, Memphis, Tenn; and William Poppleton, Baldwinsville; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Dorothy) Chmura, Durhamville; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Richard Poppleton in 1973, Leo Poppleton in 1955 and George Poppleton who was killed in World War II in 1944.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home and burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Sylvan Beach American Legion Auxiliary Fund or the Extended Care Facility Patient Fund at Oneida City Hospital.
