Age 48. Peter Minnig came to Erie County circa 1832 and settled in McKean Township. There were over 50 PA German families who migrated to Erie County from Lancaster during the same time. His father was also named Peter Minnig and remained in Rapho Twp.
Peter Minnig was married to Elizabeth Hess Metzler (1802-1881) of Manheim Twp, Lancaster, PA. They had at least 8 children. Elizabeth outlived Peter by 35 years. That is why you will find Elizabeth is buried in Erie Cemetery along with some of her children. Peter is buried in Nefftown Cemetery in Millcreek where the Rhodes family have some gravestones.
Peter's sister Mary (1808-1875) also came to Erie County within a few years with her husband, Peter Rhodes (1804-1876).
