Susie Marcin Dranchak came to the U.S from Lasztomer, Zemplén, Austria-Hungary about 1909 and settled in Perth Amboy, NJ. Her parents were Pal Marczin and Zsusanna (Susie) Pikula Marczin. Pal and Susi were married in Pennsylvania in 1892, but returned to Austria-Hungary. Susie Dranchak's birthdate varies by document. Her baptismal record states 26 October, 1893. About 1907, Susie and at least her father came back to Pennsylvania, but again returned to Europe.

In Perth Amboy, Susie worked as a cigar maker prior to meeting her husband, Nicholas Dranchak, whom she married 29 July, 1916. Susie had 5 children, John, Nicholas, Susan, Paul and Stephan Dranchak (sometimes spelled Dramcak).

Sadly, in 1925, Susie was committed to the New Jersey State Hospital at Trenton. She spent the rest of her life there. Susie's husband either abandoned or left all 5 of their children in the care of the state of New Jersey and never returned. In 1957, her son Stephen visited her at the State Hospital. She did not recognize him and thought that he was still a baby. Two of her other sons, John and Paul (and possibly Nicholas) still lived near Trenton at the time of her passing. Its not known if they ever visited her. Thus, Stephen's was the last known contact with her.

It is believed that Susie was probably in very poor condition at the time of her passing. She lived at the Hospital at a time when it was common to intentionally remove all of the teeth of the patients. The loneliness she must have experienced must have been horrendous. Her treatment at the hospital is suspect, as well as what little records that still exist about her. The Hospital reportedly destroyed her medical records in 1970 and even if the did exist, would only be available through NJ Surrogates Court. In the 1930, 1940 Federal censuses, her death certificate and her burial file, her last name is incorrect. Additionally, the MD that filled out her death certificate was unsure of as to how long she had been hospitalized or to when she was born.

Susie's step-grandson had her name corrected in her burial file. She is buried in a plot that was donated by a church.

There are no known photo's of Susie.

Susie deserved better than what she received.
