Anna Maria Zittle, elder daughter of Catherine (née Koogle) and Michael Zittle, junior, was born on 27 November 1825 in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland, and on 14 May 1826 was christened there at the Zion Lutheran Church.

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Anna Maria was living in her parents' household in or near Zittlestown, Washington County, Maryland, along with her infant daughter, Susan Rebecca. (The daughter's father is not known, but she used the surname Lesser on her marriage record.)

"Ann" Maria Zittle and Elias Miller were married on 23 July 1853 in Washington County, Maryland. The couple were the parents of five children.
